Biographie
Sechaba Nyenye* is a Mosotho contemporary visual artist born in Ficksburg, based in Lesotho, and the visionary behind *HOHA*.
HOHA — meaning to breathe, to behold — is more than a style. It is a philosophy. Through flattened masks, reduced features, and the ever-present eye 👁️, Sechaba creates portals between the present and the ancestral realm. His work is grounded in the Basotho understanding that _Badimo_ are not gone; they walk with us, guide us, and watch where we look.
Each HOHA painting is both minimal and charged. By flattening the face, he removes performance and leaves essence. The result is intimate yet monumental, local yet universal.
His ongoing series including _'Me' Badimo (My Ancestors), Matla a Frequency (Power of Frequency),_ and _O bona moo o shebileng (You see where you are looking)_ continues to build a contemporary archive of Basotho spirituality for an international audience.
In 2026, Nyenye is positioning HOHA for international art fairs and private collections, bridging Lesotho and the world with a language that needs no translation — the language of spirit.
